Thebes Bridge Instrumentation and Live Load Analysis

M&M performed instrumentation and a live load analysis of the Thebes Bridge over the Mississippi River for the Union Pacific Railroad. Thebes Bridge is about 2,750-feet-long and of cantilever through truss construction consisting of two anchor spans, four cantilever spans and three suspended spans. This bridge carries two tracks. 

The project included determining strain gage locations, installation of strain gages and field testing, as well as test data analysis and live load analysis in terms of traffic, train compositions, and capacity assessment. Instrumentation consisted of 98 resistance strain gages and 3 string potentiometers.
