The Isabel S. Holmes Bridge is 2,300’ in length and features a 250’ double-leaf bascule bridge over the Northeast Cape Fear River. As part of a Structures Management Unit On-Call Contract, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) tasked Modjeski and Masters (M&M) to perform a comprehensive rehabilitation of the double‐leaf bascule span and its fixed approach spans. M&M provided project management along with final structural, mechanical, and electrical design services. Specific services included the replacement of the existing grid deck, structural steel repairs, placement of silane deck sealer on the approach spans, extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades including replacement of existing submarine cables, mechanical and electrical upgrades, and renovation of the operator’s house. M&M also provided engineering support services during the construction phase of the project.
