Jerilyn Hassard Receives 2019 WTS “Innovative Transportation Award”

EDWARDSVILLE, IL | Modjeski and Masters is pleased to announce that Jerilyn Hassard, PE, SE, of M&M’s Edwardsville, IL office, has received the 2019 “Innovative Transportation Award” from the WTS St. Louis Chapter! The award salutes an innovative transportation project led by a woman. Jerilyn received the award in recognition of her work on the Martin Luther King (MLK) Bridge Approach Structure Replacement project.

M&M MidAmerica Regional Manager Dave Petermeier, PE, SE commented, “I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Jerilyn for more than 20 years. I can wholeheartedly confirm that Jerilyn is very deserving of this recognition. Her creative problem solving is only one of many attributes that make her an outstanding project manager.”

This project replaced the existing 16-span MLK Approach structure over IL Route 3, various railroads, Missouri Avenue, and I-55SB/I-64WB with a new five-span composite steel plate girder structure consisting of four straight spans and one curved span. Upon the decision to fully close the MLK Bridge and ramps, seven additional structures with various types of maintenance repairs were added to the project. Jerilyn did a fantastic job managing the project team, coordinating between several agencies (including IDOT, MoDOT, the City of East St. Louis, and the City of St. Louis), and providing the major last minute bridge repair additions. She effectively communicated with the project team throughout the project, stayed ahead of potential problems, and faced project challenges without hesitation. Read more about the project on the M&M website.

Ms. Hassard remarked, “The MLK Bridge Approach Replacement project was a great project with a diverse project team. It just so happens that many of the incredible team members I was privileged to work with were women. It would not have been as successful as it was without all of them.”

Please join us in congratulating Jerilyn on this honor and wishing her continued success!
