NEW ORLEANS, LA | Modjeski and Masters today announced that Field Services Engineer, Jim Costigan, P.E. received the Outstanding Young Civil Engineer Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers- New Orleans Section.
The annual award honors a civil engineer under the age of 35 who exemplifies service to and advancement of the civil engineering profession, along with service to the community, technical accomplishments, and character. Costigan was unanimously selected by the awards committee.
Costigan joined Modjeski and Masters in 2015 as part of the firm’s field services business unit in the New Orleans regional office. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and is a registered professional engineer in Louisiana.
As a field services engineer, Costigan is an inspection team leader for movable and fixed bridge inspections domestically and internationally, as well as assisting in the design, rehabilitation, and construction engineering of these bridges. He is a FHWA Certified Bridge Inspector and a Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians Level 1 Rope Access Technician. He has been a resident engineer on projects ranging from a highway bascule bridge roadway grating replacement project to a railroad bascule bridge floor system replacement project and was also a liaison to the design team during the construction of the two 800-foot basket handled arches on the new I-74 Mississippi River Bridge.
In addition to his role at Modjeski and Masters, Costigan serves on the ASCE Region 5 Younger Member Advisory Council and has previously served as the ASCE New-Orleans Branch Younger Member Chair and on the Branch Board as a Director-at-Large. Additionally, he volunteers his time to the New Orleans chapter of Engineers Without Borders, participates in community cleanups and service initiatives.
