This is a tower drive vertical lift bridge carrying Route 130 over the Pequonnock River.

Modjeski and Masters, Inc. as a subconsultant to Baker Engineering, performed strain gage balance testing. The work was performed to set a starting point for the current deck rehabilitation.

Three complete operational cycles were recorded to verify data.  A "no torque" state for each shaft was verified by releasing brakes and also electronically.  Due to obvious span light condition during the first operation, two trucks were parked on each end of the movable span for the remaining two tests.  The actual imbalance state of the span was arrived at by subtracting the published weights for the trucks from the data.

Baker Engineering will use our data from the instrumentation results, factor in the new weight changes in the rehabilitation and produce details in the Contract Documents for appropriate final balance conditions.
