On January 6, 2005, Modjeski and Masters, Inc. (MM) was contacted by New Jersey Transit regarding a mechanical failure of one of two counterweight link spherical roller bearings for this single leaf bascule bridge in Secaucus, New Jersey

Modjeski and Masters performed emergency services for this New Jersey Transit movable bridge following failure of the upper link pin assembly for the counterweight. Services included: performing initial engineering investigation to determine the extent of damage and develop preliminary assessment as to probable cause(s); strain gage installation and analysis; new bearing design for replacement of counterweight trunnion bearings; and construction support services.

A portion of these emergency services were performed in continuous day and night shifts throughout a weekend.
