This project involved development of a new comprehensive LRFD specification and commentary for the seismic design of bridges for consideration by the AASHTO Highway Subcommittee on Bridges and Structures.  These specifications reflect experience gained during recent damaging earthquakes and the results of research programs conducted in the United States and elsewhere.  Issues addressed during this project include:

Design philosophy and performance criteria
Seismic loads and site effects
Analysis and modeling
Design Requirements 

Modjeski and Masters, Inc. was a subconsultant to the Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research for this project.  Our role included conducting those portions of the project pertaining to bridge superstructures and steel structures and leading the development of a report documenting and incorporating provisions in the LRFD format.
