Project Information:

This assignment was NCHRP Project 12-72, Blast Resistant Highway Bridges Design and Detailing Guidelines.  The objective of this project is to develop design guidance for improving the structural performance and resistance to explosive effects of new and existing bridges.

The project requires the following tasks:

• Task 1. Literature Search
• Task 2. A Report of the State of the Practice and Future Needs
• Task 3. Develop Guidelines for Selecting Analysis Techniques
• Task 4. Develop Initial Design and Detailing Guidelines
• Task 5. Develop a Work Plan to Evaluate Design Guidance
• Task 6. Submit an Interim Report
• Task 7. Perform the Work Plan
• Task 8. Develop a Design and Detailing Guide Specification with Examples
• Task 9. Develop a Procedure and Forms for Assessment of Bridges Damaged by Blasts
• Task 10. Submit the Final Report

Modjeski and Masters is providing services on these tasks as a subconsultant to the University of TexasModjeski and Masters is providing services on these tasks as a subconsultant to the University of Texas. Modjeski and Masters work includes reviewing the literature search, participate in developing component test plans, review test and analytical study results and develop design provisions to be incorporated in the AASHTO-LRFD design specifications.
