Throgs Neck Bridge Approaches
Throgs Neck Bridge
Location:
Bronx, New York

Client:
Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority

Project Information:

The Throgs Neck Bridge carries Interstate 295 across the East River and links the Bronx and Queens, New York. The crossing features a suspension bridge with a 1,800-foot main span and side spans of 555 feet each. The approach viaducts consist of continuous plate-girder spans carried on reinforced concrete piers. The total length of the structure including approaches is 13,400 feet.

Modjeski and Masters, Inc. is currently providing services to replace the concrete deck, rehabilitate the abutment and retaining walls, and perform a seismic analysis and retrofit design for the Queens approaches. The analysis work includes development of site-specific ground motions and modeling the non-ductile behavior of the existing concrete piers.
