Project Information:

Henry Avenue is a four-lane principal arterial roadway in the City of Philadelphia. Many of its intersections have dedicated left and/or right turn lanes. Henry Avenue begins at Allegheny Avenue in Philadelphia's Nicetown-Tioga Community, passes through East Falls, Manayunk, and Roxborough, and ends at Ridge Avenue in the Andorra Community northwest of its origin. Along most of its route it serves as Fairmont Park's southwest border.

The Henry Avenue Bridge over the Wissahickon Creek was designed by Ralph Modjeski in the late 1920's and opened to traffic in 1932. It was formerly known as the Wissahickon Memorial Bridge. It carries four lanes of traffic, two in each direction, over the Wissahickon Creek and Lincoln Drive. From face of abutment to face of abutment, the structure is 688'-0" and features a 300- foot arch.

The Henry Avenue Bridge over SEPTA and CSX was also designed by Ralph Modjeski in the late 1920's and opened to traffic in 1930. It carries four lanes of traffic, two in each direction, over the SEPTA and CSX lines and an unnamed tributary of the Schuylkill River. The total length of the structure is approximately 562 feet and includes spans ranging in length from 24 to 93 feet.

Modjeski and Masters, Inc. was contracted by the Department to provide engineering services for the rehabilitation of both structures while maintaining traffic. Structural, drainage, and safety features will be improved during the rehabilitation process.
