Project Information:

The Mid-Hudson Bridge is a 3000 foot suspension bridge over the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, New York. The main span is 1500 feet tower to tower and each side span is 750 feet. Opened in 1930, the bridge carries one lane in each direction with an alternating center lane.

Services included the investigation of the main cables and suspender cable. The project included opening, wedging and inspecting 5 cable panels of the north cable and 6 panels of the south cable. Upon inspection, cable wires were cleaned, a corrosion inhibitor applied and the cable was re-wrapped and painted. Wire samples were taken for fracture toughness testing. Two suspender cables were removed for testing and replaced with new cables. Modjeski and Masters designed suspender cable jacking schemes to facilitate replacement. An illustrated final report will be provided to the client.
