The objective of this research was to develop recommended specifications for the design, fabrication, and erection of movable highway bridges. The recommended specifications are based on current practice and technology, are consistent with the format and philosophy of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, and are accompanied by a commentary.

The following specific tasks were accomplished:

• Task 1 - Reviewed domestic and foreign practice and research findings

• Task 2 - Evaluated the information in Task 1 for possible incorporation into the recommended specification

• Task 3 - Prepared a detailed outline for the recommended specification based on the findings of Tasks 1 and 2

• Task 4 - Submitted an Interim Technical Report detailing the results of Tasks 1 – 3

• Task 5 - Developed a draft version of the specifications

• Task 6 - Revised the recommended specifications based on the Panel’s comments

• Task 7 - Identified areas of future research
