| Project Information: The "Million Dollar Bridge" carries Route 77 over the Fore River and links the Cities of Portland and South Portland. The original structure was completed in 1916. The replacement structure, the Portland-South Portland Bridge, is located downstream from the original structure. It is located on a curved alignment and is a divided roadway having four 12-foot traffic lanes. The replacement bridge is a mid-level structure with continuous multi-girder approaches with spans ranging from 60 to 240 feet and a main movable span which consists of a 285-foot, four-leaf trunnion bascule bridge for a total length of about 4,748 feet. The Prime Consultant was T. Y. Lin International who was responsible for the concrete alternative approach superstructure and the substructures for both the concrete and steel alternatives. Modjeski and Masters, Inc. provided the following engineering services:
