Modjeski and Masters' Vice-President
Presents First Ralph Modjeski Award

Modjeski and Masters' Vice-President and Director of Project Development, Michael F. Britt, P.E., presented the first ever Ralph Modjeski Award for Excellence in Transportation Design at the 2008 Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Awards ceremony held on Thursday, September 18th, 2008.  The ceremony was held at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in the House of Representatives Majority Caucus Room.  The event was sponsored by Preservation Pennsylvania, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.  For the past thirty years these awards have honored individuals and organizations that exhibited excellence in the field of historic preservation.

The Ralph Modjeski Award was presented to the Southern Alleghenies Conservancy and the Somerset Conservation District for guiding a remarkable 11-year partnership to rehabilitate the Kings Covered Bridge, in Middlecreek Township.  The Kings Covered Bridge was rehabilitated in place, rather than be dismantled, and the existing materials were retained or replaced in-kind to match the original. The project team conducted extensive repairs and rehabilitation to the trusses, arches, substructure, joists and floor, roof and decking.  The architects and consultants for this project were: the Rockwood Area Historical Society, Middlecreek Township Supervisor, Simone Collins Landscape Architecture, Gannett Fleming, Inc., Arnold M. Granton Associates, DCF Engineering, Inc., and Allegheny Restoration.

Congratulations to the recipients of this award.  Modjeski and Masters is pleased to recognize these participants for their outstanding achievement in historical bridge preservation.
