Newest Firm Leaders in the Spotlight MECHANICSBURG, PA | Modjeski and Masters, a bridge engineering firm responsible for the design of many of our nation’s iconic bridges, recently announced the promotion of six of its employees. Aaron Kober, PE, SE; Christopher Smith, PE; Daniel McCaffrey, PE; Adrienne Crider, PE; Lawrence Toups, IV, PE; and Bradly Croop, PE have been promoted to Associate. They will contribute to the firm’s internal leadership, helping to build Modjeski and Masters’ continued recognition as a worldwide leader in bridge design.

“Each of these fine individuals bring innovative thinking to their respective projects and have a deep understanding of the bridge design industry and the clients we serve,“ says M&M President and CEO, Barney Martin, Jr., PhD, PE. “They are undoubtedly the future of our firm and I have complete confidence that their talents will help sustain Modjeski and Masters as a premier bridge engineering leader well into the future.”

Aaron Kober, PE, SE has been employed by the Modjeski and Masters, Inc. MidAmerica office since 1998. He has participated in the inspection, analysis, load capacity rating, design, and rehabilitation of highway, railroad and pedestrian structures of various sizes and complexity levels. During Mr. Kober's 17 years of experience, he has been extensively involved with the Merchants Bridge in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a registered Professional Engineer in both Illinois and Missouri, and a registered Structural Engineer in Illinois. He is also a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri (ACEC-MO), and the St. Louis Railway Club.

Christopher Smith, PE joined Modjeski and Masters, Inc. in 1999 and has been extensively involved in the design, rating and strengthening of bridge structures since his employment with the firm. His design experience includes being the Structural Lead for the Freeport Bridge Rehabilitation, M-231 Bypass Design/Bid/Build and Ramp G Design/Build Projects. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. Mr. Smith is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE – East Penn and Clearfield Sections), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE – current Central PA Section President), and the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD).

Daniel McCaffrey, PE joined Modjeski and Masters, Inc. Mechanicsburg, PA office in July of 2000. He is a part of the firm’s Structural Design Section. Mr. McCaffrey has been involved in a variety of bridge projects for both highway and rail traffic. Notable projects that he has been involved in include the Ambassador Bridge, where Mr. McCaffrey is currently the Project Manager, and the Hawk Falls Bridge Replacement, where he is currently the Lead Engineer and Assistant Project Manager. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

Adrienne Crider, PE has been employed by the Modjeski and Masters, Inc. Mechanicsburg, PA office since 2001 and has been a member of the structural design group. Ms. Crider has dedicated her 14 years of experience to the design, rehabilitation, and analysis of both movable and fixed bridges of all types. She has been involved in every aspect of design, from TS&L feasibility studies, preliminary and final design of all components, and has routinely provided engineering services during construction. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA).

Lawrence Toups, IV, PE joined M&M in June 2002. He has inspection, construction monitoring, and design experience on a wide variety of bridge structure types including precast/prestressed concrete I-beam and box beam bridges, steel through-truss and deck truss bridges, steel girder bridges (including rolled and built-up sections), and movable bridges, to include bascule, swing span, and vertical lift bridges. Mr. Toups has served as an inspection team leader and team member for the in-depth inspection of several major highway and railway bridges of various types. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Louisiana and is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

Bradly Croop, PE joined Modjeski and Masters, Inc. in 2002 as a Field Services Engineer. He is assigned to the inspection of bridges and subsequent preparation of condition reports. Trained in technical access climbing methods, Mr. Croop is invaluable to M&M’s clients by minimizing the impacts and unwanted traffic disruptions due to the necessary routine inspections of their structural inventory and assets. He is also well versed in a variety of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods providing clients with in-house material testing and condition assessment services. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Idaho. Mr. Croop is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
